SATURDAY WAS A SEPARATE COOKOFF.

WE HAD ANOTHER ONE ON SUNDAY.

BOTH OF 'EM WERE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

IT IS CBA UH, SANCTIONED.

UH, JUST KIND OF WANT TO LET Y'ALL KNOW, WE HAD 194 PEOPLE COME INTO TOWN.

THEY STAYED HERE FOR FOUR DAYS, MOST OF 'EM, AND SPENT MONEY.

THEY HAD TO GO GET GAS GROCERIES BECAUSE THEY CAME FROM MIDLAND, LAREDO, HON BISBY CYPRUS SPRING USED IN VERY FEW OF THE COOKS WERE LOCAL.

MM-HMM.

UM, OUT OF THE 36 TEAMS, 26 WERE STATE RANKED IN THE TOP 26 TEAMS ON SUNDAY.

WE HAD 26 TEAMS THAT STUCK WITH US, CUZ THEY ACTUALLY POSTED ON FACEBOOK THE WORST WEATHER THEY'VE EVER COOKED IN, IN THEIR ENTIRE LIFE.

OF THE REAL TEST OF THE REAL COOK.

YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT.

ON SUNDAY, WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE THE TOP SEVEN TEAMS IN THE STATE HERE.

ACTUALLY, ONE DROVE IN FROM SAN ANTONIO AFTER COOKING THERE ON SATURDAY NIGHT AND COOKED HERE ON SUNDAY.

UM, THIS WAS OUR FIRST COOK OFF TO TRY THIS.

WE WILL DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR.

NEXT YEAR Y'ALL MAY WANT TO BE JUDGES.

UM, I DID IT SIX, GET THIS, YOU DON'T KNOW THIS PART.

SIX OF THE TURN INS CHICKEN, THREE IN RIBS, ONE IN PORK AND ONE IN BRISKET GOT PERFECT SCORES, WHICH NO COOKOFF IN THE STATE OF TEXAS HAS EVER HAD THAT MANY PEOPLE GET PERFECT SCORES IN RIBS AND IN PORK.

THEY GOT WHAT'S CALLED PERFECT.

WHICH HAS NEVER HAPPENED.

SO IT'S VERY, VERY REGIMENTED.

NEXT YEAR WE SHOULD HAVE CLOSER, IF THE WEATHER'S NICE, WE'LL HAVE CLOSER TO 70 COOKOFF TEAMS, WHICH WILL BRING IN ABOUT 500 PEOPLE TO LAKE JACKSON FOR FOUR DAYS.

UM, YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE UNIQUE THINGS ABOUT THIS CALL AS WELL IS WORKING IN A CITY LIKE WE DO, MOST OF YOUR RESIDENTIAL LOTS AREN'T HEAVILY WOODED, UH, WITH A BODY OF WATER, BUT THERE ARE A FEW, AND THIS HAPPENED TO BE ONE OF 'EM.

UH, SO HE CONTACTED CORPORAL GONZALEZ AND TOGETHER, UH, THEY WERE ABLE TO LOCATE HER BY VOICE, UH, IN THE AREA, BUT STILL COULDN'T GET TO HER.

SO, AS THE OFFICERS ENTERED THE WOODED AREA, UH, THIS PERSON RETREATED INTO THE WATER.

UH, DON'T KNOW.

I BELIEVE IT'S AN OLD SANDPIT.

UH, IT CAN BE DEEP IN, IN SOME PLACES FOR CERTAIN, UH, I KNOW BEING A, A DIVER, UH, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO DO IS, IS NECESSARILY ENTER WATER THAT YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH, WITHOUT A REAL PLAN FOR IT.

SO IT CAN BE VERY RISKY.

UH, AS WELL AS, YOU KNOW, IN THAT TRAINING, UH, THEY TEACH YOU RETRIEVING SOMEONE WITH WATER CAN BE VERY, VERY RISKY, ESPECIALLY IF THEY GO INTO A PANIC.

UH, SO AS THE OFFICERS, SHE RETREATED INTO THE POND, UH, CORPORAL GONZALEZ, UH, THEN TOOK UPON HIMSELF TO LAUNCH HIS DRONE, UH, AND USED THE THERMAL IMAGING, UH, TO LOCATE HER.

UH, SHE WAS, AT THE TIME, ABOUT 10 FEET OFF THE BANK IN THE WATER.

UH, SO A SIDE NOTE THERE WITH THE LETTER, UH, WE'VE DEVELOPED OUR DRONE PROGRAM.

IT'S BEEN EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL.

OUR GOAL HAS ALWAYS BEEN TO WORK DRONES DOWN TO, UH, PATROL LEVEL FOR THAT IMMEDIATE RESPONSE.

SO YOU CAN DEPLOY THAT ASSET, UH, IN, IN QUICKLY, UH, AND, AND ASSIST IN A SITUATION.

CORPORAL GONZALEZ, ACTUALLY, UH, BEFORE THAT TOOK PLACE, TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF TO ENTER THE, UH, LICENSING COURSE, UH, TOOK IT ON HIS OWN TIME, UH, AT HIS OWN COST, UH, TO, TO GET HIS 1 0 7 LICENSE SO HE COULD BE PREPARED.

SO HE LAUNCHED THE DRONE TO LOCATE, UH, THE FEMALE, UH, AS OFFICER REE WAS TRYING TO COAX HER OUT OF THE WATER.

OF COURSE, AT SOME POINT, THEY HAD THE, THE FORETHOUGHT THEN TO IMMEDIATELY, UH, NOTIFY OTHER ASSISTANCE LIKE LAKE JACKSON EMS AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, UH, UM, WHO WERE ON THEIR WAY TO THE SCENE.

UH, BUT AS THEY WERE THERE, UH, SHE STARTED TO TREAD WATER, UH, UH, AND OF COURSE TRYING TO GET HER TO COME OUT OF THE WATER.

SHE WENT UNDERWATER, BRIEFLY AND RESURFACE.

IT WAS APPARENT THAT SHE WAS STRUGGLING.

AND UPON SEEING THIS, BOTH OFFICER REESE AND CORPORAL GONZALEZ, UM, IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO TAKE THEIR DUTY BELT, THEIR VEST, WHICH OBVIOUSLY YOU CAN'T GO IN WATER IN THAT.

UH, AND THEY MADE A DECISION THAT, UH, BEFORE THINGS GOT WORSE TO ENTER THE WATER AND WERE ABLE TO PULL HER TO SAFETY AND GET HER, GET HER HELP.

UM, YOU KNOW, AND THAT'S THE LAST PART ABOUT IT, THAT YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU'RE IN THAT SITUATION, UH, THE BRAVERY THAT IT TAKES TO, AND A COMPASSION IS WHAT IT IS.

UH, WHAT IT IS, IT'S BASICALLY A BIG DIESEL OR GAS POWERED FAN.

SO IT'LL FORCE AIR INTO THE FIRE WILL CAUSE IT TO BURN AT A HIGHER TEMPERATURE, SO YOU'LL HAVE A MORE COMPLETE BURN.

SO YOU WON'T HAVE THOSE, THE BYPRODUCTS OF THAT INCOMPLETE COMBUSTION, WHICH WOULD BE THE SMOKE.

AND IF AT ANY POINT IN TIME SMOKE DID GET INTO ANY OF THE NEIGHBORHOODS, UH, WE WOULD ASK THEM TO, TO SHUT IT DOWN IMMEDIATELY.

THE NEXT MORNING WAS, I WAS STANDING THERE AND I SAW THESE TWO LITTLE GIRLS THAT WERE JUST ALL EXCITED AND THEY WEREN'T PERFORMING OR ANYTHING.

AND SO I ASKED THEM TO GO UP THERE AND RING THE BELL WITH ME AND STUFF.

AND IT WAS TWO SISTERS, OF COURSE.

AND, UH, THEY WERE TOO EMBARRASSED.

THEY DIDN'T WANNA SAY THEIR NAMES AND STUFF, SO I JUST INTRODUCED THEM AND, BUT FIRST I SAID, WELL, Y'ALL, LET'S RING THE BELL TOGETHER.

AND SO THEY RANG THE BELL TOGETHER AND THE LITTLEST ONE, SHE SAID, WELL, CAN I RING IT BY MYSELF, ? I SAID, SURE, YOU HAVE ANOTHER RING ON IT.

SO IT WAS CUTE AND, AND STUFF.

SO IT WAS GOOD.

WE REALLY ONLY HAD ONE BOOKING THAT WE CAN ACCOMMODATE THE PARKING, YOU KNOW, FOR, FOR THE WEEK.
